The project scope included the renovation and expansion of a former elementary school building for use as offices and conference center for the Louisville Archdiocese. Solar design was a critical element in the design as well as energy-efficient windows and the addition of insulation. The design attempts to maintain the historic character of the original school building while clearly defining new additions.
The objective for this project was to connect the existing chapel and education buildings with a new welcome center while providing new administrative offices, a multi-purpose activity area, and a new choir practice suite. A new elevator was also provided to connect the varying levels of the facility. The design intent was to complement the materials, forms, and qualities of the existing buildings, which blend naturally with the rustic wooded campus. The project also involved site design and master planning for these additions as well as possible future expansions.
For this client, AJRC developed a facility masterplan and has completed multiple phases of additions and renovations. Projects include sanctuary improvements, welcome center, classrooms, event center, and a memorial gallery.
